Visiting Washington, D.C. from Hawaii

Even though it’s relatively far from Hawaii, visiting Washington, D.C. is a place where you can take in a part of our nation’s history, making the trip well worth the effort. Here, you can visit the many national monuments, museums and wonderful attractions throughout the city as described below.

Washington in the spring is a great time to view the Cherry Blossoms along the Potomac River.  Each year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo. The gift and annual celebration honor the lasting friendship between the United States and Japan and the continued close relationship between the two countries.

The Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. across from the Washington Monument.  The reflecting pool between the two historic monuments is a great place to ponder as Lincoln did especially when sitting on the steps in front of Lincoln.   On the other end, you can catch a glimpse of families flying kites on nice sunny days.

Besides the normal National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institute and National Air & Space Museum as well as other attractions located along the National Mall, a good part of history can be viewed at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.  A living memorial to the Holocaust, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum inspires citizens and leaders worldwide to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity.

No family trip would be complete without a visit to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo.  There’s always something going on at the zoo whether it be training an elephant, chatting with and feeding an octopus, or learning about arthropods, it’s sure to be a good time for all.

Let Panda Travel ® help you plan your next trip to our nation’s capital where you can take in all the history that has made America what it is today.
