Description

Awarded North America's Best Small Resort of the Year by The Good Skiing and Boarding Guide 2004, Silver Star's village is a true winter wonderland with the theme of the village inspired by a typical nineteenth century British Columbian mining town with Victorian architecture. With its boarded sidewalks, no cars and beautifully colored storefronts and unique, eclectic array of shops, this is simply a picture postcard ski village.

There are four hotels in Silver Star, all of which have standard rooms with an occupancy of at least four, with children 18 years and younger free in parent's room. The Putnam Station Inn, Silver Lode Inn, Vance Creek Hotel and the Chilcoot Conference Center also feature one and two bedrooms, some with kitchenettes, hot tubs and fireplaces.

Silver Star has seven condominiums, all of which sleep from two up to 15 guests with many of the condos featuring kitchenettes, fireplaces, common hot tub and more. For the large family or group, another good choice might be one of the vacation homes, suites or townhouses which sleep from two to up to 12 people and while they might appear more expensive, if you are splitting costs, they usually end up being a lot less expensive then if every couple, family or friends were staying separately.

If you want some new ski togs, Ski Dazzle offers a wide variety of skis and snowboards as well as clothing and accessories. The Coldstream Dry Goods has lots of gifts, souvenirs and sportswear for the whole family and Valhalla Pure Outfitters is the place to shop for multi-sport activities. For the child in all of us, Pooh's and Bean's Sweet Shoppe is a must stop for a great selection of candies. The resort also rents out skis and boards of all types, figure and hockey skates, all at reasonable prices.

There are 11 places to dine in the village and hotels, including two bakery cafes, Bugaboos, noted for its award-winning strudels and coffee and Francuccino's Mountain Bakery & Café, which not only features European baked goods, but serves gourmet dinners three nights a week. Paradise Camp is an inexpensive spot for lunch or snacks and the Town Hall Eatery is the local's hangout.

Clementine's Dining Room, The Italian Garden and the Vance Creek Saloon are all reasonably priced spots, located in the Silver Star Club Resort and it's been said one shouldn't miss the Aberdeen Deli Company for their fantastic soups and homemade fare. Going upscale, the Craigellachie Dining Room has a full Okanagan wine list and was also voted by Ski Canada as the Best Kids Restaurant and if you're looking for a light meal, stop by the intimate The Okanagan Wine Cellar, both in the Putnam Station Inn. The Silver Lode Inn Dining Room features international and Swiss cuisine in the inviting atmosphere of a Swiss chalet.
