The Radisson Hotel Birmingham is located in the city's vibrant Southside district, surrounded by tree-lined avenues, historic architecture, interesting shops and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

The hotel just recently went through extensive renovations and all the air-conditioned, spacious rooms have been redone with all the modern conveniences a guest expects at a 3-star hotel. Amenities include wake-up calls, coffee/tea maker, hair dryers, full room service menu, cable TV, clock radio and more.

The hotel offers breakfast, lunch and dinner at J. Gatsby's restaurant featuring American cuisine; and the perfect place to enjoy evening cocktails would be the Lobby Piano Bar. Other hotel amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, sauna, hair salon, fitness equipment, complimentary coffee in the lobby, laundry service and a safe deposit box at the front desk.

Because of its great location, you can really explore the area by foot. For nightlife, check out the great acts at the 22nd Street Jazz Café; The Mill, featuring great microbrewed beers and good food; Dave's Pub, a popular pub where the locals hang out; Bell Bottoms, featuring the music of the 70's where Baby Boomers and Generation X's boogie the night away; and finally, the Blue Monkey, a nouveau martini club. All of these nightspots are less than a mile away from the hotel, most even closer.

Restaurants that are close enough to walk to include The Mill, great for an early breakfast of home baked goods and Highlands Bar and Grill, a Birmingham institution with a menu that combines New South cuisine with a rustic French influence and reservations a must. And when you are in the South, you must have barbeque! Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q is one of the cities favorite, featuring pork, chicken and brisket slow-cooked over a hickory wood fire. If you want to experience what many in Birmingham consider the very best barbequed ribs, be sure to visit Dreamland BBQ, known far and wide for their sinfully delicious ribs.

What to see and do on your free day on Sunday? Less than a mile away is Vulcan, the world's largest cast-iron sculpture, originally made in 1904 for the St. Louise World's Fair. Or you can check out the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, one of the top three museums of its kind in the world with a collection of 750 motorcycles and vintage cars. You could also visit the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, about a mile away featuring instruments and memorabilia of Alabama's jazz greats, including Lionel Hampton and Nat King Cole.

Then of course you could always have a leisurely brunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants in the area, wander through the shops, visit the Botanical Garden and just have a relaxing day, reliving all the things you saw and experienced in Birmingham, Alabama.
