Photo: Shanghai City

With its coastline on the East China Sea and the Huanngpu River wending its way through the middle of the city, Shanghai is simply a wonderful, exciting city to visit. Often referred to as "the Oriental Paris", it can also be compared to New York City with its electric atmosphere and energy. Shanghai is a city of rich cultural resources, wonderful cafes and restaurants, great shopping, museums, temples and gardens to delight one's soul.

Because of its history of being open to foreigners and its location on the East China Sea, Shanghai is rich in, not only Chinese history, but also the more recent history of the 1920s through the 40s, when it was considered a paradise for adventurers and the wealthy from around the world. The well preserved buildings in the Bund Area are of typical European architecture and many others have survived in the Old City section of Shanghai.

Considered a must see for all visitors, Yuyuan Garden & Bazaar, built in 1559, offers a rare glimpse of old Shanghai with its gardens, markets, temples and architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Another not to miss attraction is Shanghai Old Street, a remarkable area with houses lining the street from those Dynasties, restaurants, tea houses, shopping and more.
