Chocolates, Red Roses & Love A Most Romantic Valentine's Day Special

Valentines Day Special

Imagine spending Valentine's Day with the one you love in what is, without a doubt, one of the very most romantic places in the world. It's all true you know - the palm trees really do sway in the gentle tradewinds, the air is balmy and the skies are crystal clear with nary a cloud in sight.

Then there is the Pacific Ocean, with colors that range from midnight blue, to turquoise to azure and the sunsets that will dazzle your eyes with their colors of reds, pinks and purple. And we can't forget the stars, sparkling like a magic umbrella over these islands of Hawaii.

Valentines Day Special

On the morning of Valentine's Day, a dozen red roses and a box of chocolate will be delivered to your room. Spend your day however you like, but do include a stroll along Waikiki Beach in the evening with your love, watching a full moon rise over Diamond Head - hard to believe, but there will be a nearly full moon on February 14, 2006 - and what could be more romantic that that?

As a former restaurant reviewer, the website editor recommends the following restaurants for their atmosphere and great food. Since it is one of the most popular holidays in Hawaii for people to go out to dinner, reservations for Valentine's Day should be made months in advance.

Hy's Steak House***
Waikiki Park Heights Hotel
2440 Kuhio Avenue
808-922-5555
The décor is elegant, including an original Tiffany stained glass ceiling. Dark wood paneling, booths, books and their glassed-in grill provide the setting, but what is the star, is the food. Prime steaks and chops grilled over Kiawe wood featuring classic dishes such as Chateaubriand, Beef Wellington and their famous Rack of Lamb. Flambé desserts to die for and impeccable service make Hy's a fantastic spot for an absolutely unforgettable evening.

Hau Tree Lanai***
New Otani Kaimana Hotel
2863 Kalakaua Avenue
1-800-356-8264
The Hau Tree Lanai's setting could not be more beautiful. Dining al fresco by candlelight under the Hau Trees right on the beach, the atmosphere is casual but elegant and the food is beautiful prepared and served. The menu offers a wonderful selection of entrees from Scampi to Filet Mignon. See the stars twinkling between the leaves and listen to the whisper of the waves touching San Souci Beach and you'll understand why the famous Scottish poet Robert Louis Stevenson loved the Hau Tree so much.

Tiki's Grill & Bar**
ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel
2570 Kalakaua Avenue
808-923-8454
Tiki's is one of the hippest open air restaurants on the island. With an award-winning chef who creates wonderful dishes featuring American Pacific Rim cuisine using the flavors of the islands, this is one of the hottest places in town. On the second floor, the restaurant overlooks Waikiki Beach, offering breathtaking sunsets and nightly Hawaiian contemporary live entertainment. The drink prices are some of the very lowest in Waikiki and the food is great. Might not be the most romantic, but it sure is a lot of fun.

Diamond Head Market*
3158 Monsarrat Avenue
808-732-0077
If all else fails and you can't get into the restaurants of your choice, head for the Diamond Head Market for some upscale takeout featuring fast, fresh and simply great food by Chef Kelvin Ro. Selections include grilled salmon, chicken cacciatore, fabulous salads such as Ahi Nicoise or Caesar, great gourmet sandwiches and desserts. So gather your feast together, grab some beach mats and head to Waikiki Beach. Watch the sunset, feel the tradewinds and enjoy an evening together in as a romantic place as you could desire.
