The Pavilion Café is located on the grounds of the Honolulu Academy of Arts, one of the most beautiful buildings in Honolulu, with its courtyards and fountains and huge collection of Asian art, as well as pieces from all over Europe. It is a museum that soothes not only the soul, but the body. And the body is soothed by Chef Mike Nevin's enticing menus and wonderful food. In a courtyard overlooking lovely gardens, sculptures by Jun Keneko and a waterfall, the indoor/outdoor seating is under the shade of a 70-year old monkey pod tree. Everything is prepared fresh each day using the freshest island ingredients, creating daily specials and a menu selection of salads, sandwiches, salads, entrees and desserts. Try the Piadina featuring Italian Flatbread with arugula, chopped tomatoes, cucumber, basil, garlic, fresh mozzarella and proscuitto for an unforgettable sandwich, or if you're really hungry, opt for the half roast island chicken with pesto pasta. The limited wine list is sold by the glass or bottle. There is no admission charge to those who are visiting the Academy for lunch only, although the Academy is definitely worth a visit. The café is open Tues. to Sat. from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Reservations are highly recommended.
