Since it opened in 2004, the award winning Formaggio's has been a huge success. Only 1,400 sq. ft. with probably the smallest kitchen in all of Hawaii, it produces some of the best small plates available. The space is long and narrow, has a great upscale décor and somehow even squeezes in a place for live music nightly. Popular with all ages, they offer over 50 wines by the glass in 2 and 6 ounce servings and Mediterranean casual gourmet fare. Some of the most popular dishes include the Escargot Bleu, escargots baked in an herbed garlic butter with Roquefort cheese and puff pasty, simply heavenly; Boneless Short Ribs in red wine; Crab Cakes; and the Formaggio Della Casa, the chef's selection of cheeses from around the world, served with seasonal fruits and a half baguette. There are six choices of panini, including a Cubano Roast Pork and the mouth watering USA Kobe Beef Burger with mozzarella cheese, lettuce and tomato. All paninis are served with a side of mesclun greens. Six pizza choices and three salads round out the menu for dining. This is a terrific place to meet local residents and have some fantastic food and wine. Open Mon. to Thurs. from 5 pm to midnight; Fri. and Sat. from 5 pm to 2 am.
