The Covenant Books and Coffee is a Christian owned bookstore and café serving some of the very best soups, salads and sandwiches found anywhere in Honolulu at very reasonable prices. Using only the freshest of ingredients, they start the morning off early with some great omelets, including an Italian version with fresh mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. For an extra $1.25 you can add a half order of their tasty seasoned fried potatoes. Belgian Waffles, a Mexican Burrito and Covenant Croissants, with ham and cheese or the mouthwatering Banana French Toast Croissant as well as several side orders.
But it is during the lunch hours through closing that the Covenant is really hopping with business people from all over the Kaimuki area. The daily soup is freshly made by David Yoshimura, known as The Godfather of Soup appropriately, who whips up a delicious soup each day such as Thai Shrimp Curry or Creamy Crab and Asparagus. Then there are the salads, chilled, crisp and with wonderful homemade dressings; and the sandwiches, available on different types of bread and rolls, made with the freshest ingredients. You can order any type of combo, such as half sandwich and half soup or salad. They personally roast and serve 100% Hawaiian grown coffees that go perfectly with the decadent selection of desserts. Charming is the perfect word to describe Covenant Books and Coffee with walls decorated with colorful and delightful artwork (which is available for purchase), the staff, who do not accept tips and the ambiance. Their motto is "good food for the body and soul" and that it is! Open Mon. to Sat. from 7 am to 5 pm; Breakfast from 7 to 10 am, Mon. to Fri., 7 to 10:30am on Sat. Closed on Sun.
