Thai Chef Restaurant is considered by most residents of Maui as serving the very best Thai food on the island. It is a small restaurant that is located behind the building 880 Front Street in back of which there are a row of shops, including the restaurant. This could really be classed as a hidden gem. Serving authentic Thai cuisine, the Chankhamany family has owned and operated the restaurant since 1990. Using family recipes and the freshest herbs, spices and ingredients they have created a very special Thai restaurant that receives rave reviews from both residents and visitors.
The Chicken and Beef Satays are served on a bed of shredded cabbage with a really great Peanut Sauce or select the Spring Rolls with the spicy dipping sauce both winners for appetizers. Try the Green Papaya Salad, or Pad Thai, or one of the more popular dishes on the menu, the Ginger Opakapaka. If you love hot and spicy, a great choice would be the Chili Shrimp, which gets rave reviews from fans. The Green Curry and Yellow Curry are excellent and for something a little different, try the Lobster Curry. Two chicken dishes recommended to try out are the Chicken Fried Rice and the Chicken with Thai Basil. The Thai Chef Restaurant does not have a liquor license, so you can bring your own bottle of wine or beer with no corkage fee charged. Because the restaurant is small, it is recommended to make a reservation. They are open from Monday to Friday from 11 am to 2 pm and nightly from 7 to 9:30 pm.
