Chef/Owner Jacque opened his eclectic restaurant and immediately it was jamming - with big wave surfers, residents and the lucky visitors who happened to stumble upon it. With a beach atmosphere and outdoor dining under a large tent in a garden, it's casual, fun and has some of the best food on the island at reasonable prices. The French born chef features a type of French and Caribbean, with a touch of Hawaii cuisine. The menu is large and has a great selection of appetizers from his signature Soup Pauvert, a special pumpkin coconut soup with diced scallops to a fabulous Smoked Salmon Goat Cheese Quesadilla with sautéed leeks and curry. There is a nice selection of salads from Paia Greek Salad, a terrific Salad Nicoise with poached Ahi or if you're a vegetarian, try the Fried Tofu Salad. Pastas are served with bread and include another signature dish, Greek Pasta with roasted garlic and bell peppers, Feta cheese and herbs over farfalle with onions and garlic.
Another inventive signature dish is Jacques' Crispy Little Poulet featuring a deep fried Cornish Game Hen with Tonkatsu sauce - absolutely yummy. Other dishes include a Spicy Peanut Chicken, Sautéed Beef with a peppercorn brandy cream sauce, Roasted Duckling, New York Steak Frite and more. The eleven fish choices are served with vegetables and rice and include another signature dish, North Shore Fish with Pumpkin Sauce, an absolute winner. Curries include Chicken, Shrimp, or Fish, all prepared in a mild coconut curry sauce with oranges and bananas. For vegetarians there is great Vegetable Curry and a Tofu Stir Fry. The Sushi Bar is extremely popular and usually crowded with people ordering Baked California Rolls, Spider Rolls, Spicy Crab Roll or even some combos. Whatever you eat, save some rooms for dessert because naturally Chef Jacque makes terrific desserts, including one of the very best Crème Brulee on the island. There is a full bar and reservations are not accepted, so it might require a wait, but the whole experience, from the atmosphere to the food, will be well worth waiting for. Open daily from 5 to 10 pm; Sushi Bar closed on Sun. & Mon.
