Gary Bush's Castaway Café is often considered Maui's best kept secret. It is not very large, the décor is rather dated, but it is only 10 feet from Ka'anapali Beach and if you get to sit outside, you'll enjoy beautiful sunset views. And amazingly, their wine list features 4,000 bottles of wine of over 500 wines. In 1998 they won Wine Spectator's Award for Excellence for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world. And to go along with all that wine, they serve good down home food with gourmet touches at moderate prices. Breakfast specials include Eggs Benedict, great Breakfast Burritos, 3-egg omelets of all sorts, griddle specialties such as pancakes, French toast and Belgian Waffles, fresh island fruits and a great kid's menu for those 10 and under. Lunch features an assortment of salads, including the popular Paradise Chicken Salad with strips of marinated chicken tenders served warm on a bed of Kula greens with tortilla chips and topped with pico de gallo and cilantro lime & red aioli sauce or you can choose one of the seven specialty burgers served on a Kaiser roll with a choice of Maui chips, French fries or potato salad. An assortment of sandwiches and even Fish and Chips are also available.

At dinner there are two appetizers offered, but most are seasonal for the selection changes often, but can include such items as Sashimi, Shoyu Chicken, Crab Stuffed Mushrooms and a fantastic Coconut Shrimp. There are several salads to choose from as well as eclectic entrée's offered such as a Roasted Veggie Pizza to Grilled New York Steak with those delicious Coconut Shrimp, or a Hawaiian-style Cordon Bleu or the ever popular South of the Border Quesadilla featuring two flour tortillas filled with grilled chicken, black beans and cheddar cheese, served with Spanish rice. Ever Tuesday from 5 to 9 pm, the Castaway Café offers a Two for One Pasta Night, with seven sauces to choose from. There are also appetizers from Bruschetta to Calamari Frittura as well as two salads. Be sure to ask about their Pasta Night Wine Specials and save some room for dessert as they have some excellent choices. Reservations are recommended. Open daily for breakfast, lunch & dinner from 7:30 am to 9 pm.
