Stardust Resort and Casino in Las Vegas Closing & Start of the Echelon Destination

After nearly 50 years, the Stardust Resort and Casino in Las Vegas closed on November 1, 2006. The Stardust was imploded on March 13, 2007 to make way for the multi-property resort destination, Echelon. Construction on the property began on June 19, 2007 and is estimated to cost at least $4.8 billion dollars and an opening planned for the last quarter of 2010.

The Echelon will be the centerpiece of the 87 acres where the Westward Ho, Budget Suites and the Stardust used to be, creating a new north strip. There will be close to 5,000 rooms available in the 5 hotels, including the Echelon, Shangri-La Las Vegas, Suites at Echelon, Delano Las Vegas and Mondrian Las Vegas.

All the hotels will share the 4th largest casino in Las Vegas at 140,000 sq. ft.; a 4,000 seat theatre for long term productions; 1,500 seat theatre for touring acts; 300,000 sq. ft. shopping venue by General Growth; the 4th largest convention center; and, 30 restaurants and bars.
