The 2.5 Star Maui Beach Hotel is located only three miles from Kahului Airport and within walking distance of two large shopping malls. This is a budget property that offers clean rooms and good service at very reasonable prices and is perfect for those who plan to spend little time in their rooms. Even though it is close to the main airport, the property is not affected by noise of the planes taking off.
The Maui Beach recently put in about $4 million worth of enhancements including new carpets, bathroom flooring, new showers and black out drapes. The décor is in a tropical contemporary style. All the rooms feature data ports for internet access, writing tables, cable TV, armoire, hair dryer, in-room safe (fee), voice mail, wakeup calls, alarm clock radio, mini refrigerator and more.
Property amenities include a swimming pool and sundeck on the 2nd floor as well as a restaurant and lounge/bar, also on the 2nd floor. There is complimentary parking and the hotel offers a complimentary airport shuttle service on request, available from early morning until late at night. Part of the property does have a very narrow beach at low tide, but the area is not safe for swimming. The Maui Beach also has privileges for their guests at an 18-hole, par 71 golf course in Kihei, about 10 miles away.
The Maui Beach Hotel is one of the very closest Hotels to Haleakala (House of the Sun), a must see for all visitors to Maui. It involves driving up a dormant volcano in time to see the sunrise over the opposite side of its crater. You’ll have to get up at about 4 am to drive up there (depending on the time of sunrise) and wait in bitterly cold weather (blame the altitude and the wind chill factor combined, regardless of the time of year). But, when the sun comes up, it is an unforgettably glorious sight with the rays of the sun shooting down into the crater with cinder cones as tall as the Empire State Building and a landscape that looks like it came from the moon.
On your way back down the mountain, probably still chilled to the bone from the experience, stop off at the Kula Lodge on the left side half way down the mountain. Warm up in front their fireplace (always lit), have a really good breakfast and see where the two volcanoes that created the island of Maui joined together, with water on each side.
So if you are coming to Maui for just a quick weekend to see Haleakala, the Maui Beach Hotel would be a perfect place to stay – inexpensive, friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms and a lot closer to the mountain than anywhere else. And if you’re coming for longer and plan to be active all day long, exploring all the hiking trails, waterfalls and various other adventures Maui has to offer, this again would be a good place to stay. Why spend your money on resort features if you’re not going to be around to enjoy them?
