As its name implies, the 3-star Queen Kapiolani Hotel recalls the glory days of the Hawaiian monarchy. Named after the Consort of the last king of Hawaii, David Kalakaua, Queen Kapiolani was a beloved figure in Hawaiian history. In the lobby of the hotel note the museum-quality paintings of both the King and Queen along with her beautiful niece, Princess Kaiulani. This newly renovated hotel has a great staff who are very warm and helpful, and the location is ideal.
Overlooking the 108-acre Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head Crater, the hotel is situated just one block from Waikiki Beach, one of the world’s most famous stretches of sand. It is across the street from the Honolulu Zoo, well worth a stroll through and a short walk to the Waikiki Aquarium which features an absolutely fascinating exhibit of jelly fish, besides other sea creatures.
Property amenities include a swimming pool and sun deck located on a high floor offering panoramic views of the surrounding area, Concierge, 24-hour front desk, complimentary WiFi Internet access throughout the hotel, laundry facilities, Activities desk, gift shop, parking (fee), business services, message service (fee), dry cleaning/laundry services and more.
The on-site Kulana Restaurant is located on the pool level, serving breakfast daily from 6:30 am to 10am. The restaurant is currently closed for lunch and dinner due to ongoing improvements and the development of new menus. You may enjoy your favorite cocktail at The Deck Waikiki, while hanging out at the pool area. Just around the corner on Kalakaua Avenue, you’ll find a wide variety of restaurants including Tiki’s Grill & Bar, Cheeseburger in Paradise and many more in every price range.
At least once or twice a month on Saturday and Sunday, the city sponsors free movies on the beach, a short stroll from the Queen Kapiolani. Regardless of what is showing, there is nothing quite like sitting on the sand facing Diamond Head with the ocean to your right and watching the stars come out. The Queen’s Surf Beach Park across the street is a popular bodyboarding location. On weekends, Queen’s is famous for hosting the “Sunset on the Beach” free movie series. There are numerous Hawaii activities near the resort, so be sure to allow plenty of time for exploration!
Hotel renovations tentatively scheduled to start Summer 2017 going through to November 2017. The renovation will be a full renovation of the public areas, sleeping rooms, and restaurant facilities. We will share more information as it becomes available.
