The 3.5-Star Paniolo Greens Resort is located on the Big Island between the northern ranch highlands of Parker Ranch and the southern coast of the island. It is the perfect place for families, for those who enjoy eco-tourism more than large resorts and those who are looking for a true stress free vacation.

The two bedroom units in twelve two-story buildings are extremely spacious with most between 1,200 to 1,400 square feet and include fully equipped gourmet kitchens and furnished patios or lanais. The décor does vary but generally is of a casual island style with a touch of Hawaiian Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) theme in keeping with the areas rich heritage of cattle ranching. There are no elevators, but the view on 2nd floor is very lovely and well worth the short climb. Amenities include color Cable TV, VCR/DVD, Stereo/CD, washer and dryer, coffee/tea maker, hair dryer, iron/board, in-room safe (fee), ceiling fan, complimentary local calls and so much more.

Since there is the lovely gourmet kitchen, you might want to pick up some supplies so you can make some of your meals in your condo. Although it means driving in the opposite direction of the condo when you leave the airport, it will be well worth the savings. Safeway Grocery store, Costco and Walmart are all located in the town of Kailua-Kona, about 12 miles from the airport. You can stock up on essentials for breakfast and lunch and perhaps some steaks to grill on the outdoor gas grills and enjoy a meal al fresco.

Property amenities include a swimming pool and spa tub, horseshoe pit, tennis court, complimentary parking, playground, exercise facility, barbeque grills, on-site activity staff and a recreation center where guests can participate in workout classes or take hula lessons or beginning dive instruction.

Paniolo Greens Resort is adjacent to the Waikoloa Village Golf Course, with nine more world-class golf courses within the immediate area. Just down the road the town of Waimea offers a selection of art galleries and gourmet restaurants, including Merriman's whose chef/owner Peter Merriman is one of the founders of Hawaii Regional Cuisine. The restaurant is always busy, so reservations are suggested. The resort is also near the Parker Ranch Museum, a fascinating place to visit.

Also nearby in the Waimea/Kamuela area is another great place to visit. The Parker Ranch has over 150,000 acres and is home to between 30,000 to 35,000 head of Black Angus and Charolais cattle. Set between Mauna Kea and the Kohala Mountains, the ranch is not only one of the oldest ranches in the country, but among the nations largest. It was on January 14, 1847 that two acres of land were purchased for $10 from King Kamehameha that started the ranch and to mark their 160th Anniversary they will be hosting special events throughout the year. About sixteen miles from the resort is Hapuna Beach State Park. There are covered pavilions for picnics, life guards, and a snack bar. The beach is one of the very nicest on the island and you can even rent boogie boards and snorkel sets there.
