The 2-Star Castle Waimea Country Lodge is located up country in beautiful Kamuela on the Big Island at about the 2,500 foot elevation. Sitting at the base of Mauna Kea, the views are stunning, especially when the dormant volcano has snow on its top during the winter months. The lodge (formerly known as the Parker Ranch Lodge)is an older property with some dated furnishings, but the rooms are clean, the prices are great, the location is truly beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are quite spacious and room amenities include a clock radio, wake up service, phone, high-speed internet access (fee), Cable TV with digital cable and seven HBO channels. All rooms, except standard hotel also have a compact refrigerator and studios come with a small kitchenette. The hotel is within walking distance of historic Waimea Town and its art and antique galleries, shopping center, theater and grocery store. The Parker Ranch Visitors Center is also nearby and a beach rated by Conde Nast Traveler as one of the world's most beautiful, Hapuna Beach is only a 15 minute drive away.
While the hotel does not have it's own restaurant on site, right next door is the popular Paniolo Country Inn Restaurant and Lounge and nearby is one of the most popular restaurants on the Big Island, Merriman's. It is expensive, but it gets rave reviews from guests. Guests of the Castle Waimea Country Lodge have signing privileges at both restaurants. Another restaurant that gets rave reviews is Cafe Pesto, a great, reasonably priced Italian restaurant that not only specializes in pizza and pasta, but also fresh fish.
