Cunard Cruise Line could be considered the Grand Dame of the cruise line world. During the golden age of sea travel in the middle 1800's, crossing the ocean was for the privileged few and Cunard was the cruise line to be sailing on. The ocean liners were floating palaces, decorated with Edwardian excess and art deco splendor. There were black-tie soirees, gala meals and a clientele that went from movie stars to world leaders, sipping champagne as the liner slipped through the icy Atlantic Ocean. It was the pinnacle of luxury travel and getting to where you were going was usually more fun than the actual arrival. The two ships of the line, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2 have won an impressive number of awards that fills three pages from all the leading travel magazines. A 3rd ship, the Queen Victoria is expected to join the line in 2007.
The ships cruise throughout the world - Queen Mary 2's maiden voyage was from Southampton, England to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, then wintered in the Caribbean with a trip down to Rio for the Carnival. Throughout the rest of the year she crossed the Atlantic 14 more times, including a Three Continents Cruise, cruised the shores of Canada and New England, the Mediterranean and even sailed the fjords of Norway.
Queen Elizabeth 2 features cruises from 1 to 107 days. There are one day overnight sampler cruises, 3 day holiday cruises, cruises to the Mediterranean, Japan, China, Australia, India, the Middle East, the Americas and almost anywhere else in between.
This is a superb cruise line with impeccable service, unbelievably luxurious accommodations, gourmet food and an ambiance of elegance and old world charm that can be found no where else.
