Nicknamed The Garden Isle, Kauai is simply one of the loveliest spots on earth. The island is home to one of the wettest areas in the world (Mt. Waialeale), the 3,567-foot deep Waimea Canyon (referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific) and the 3,000-foot high cliffs that rise from the ocean floor to form the magnificent Na Pali Coast. It also has the only navigable river in Hawaii, 43 white sand beaches and more beach per mile of coastline than any of the other islands.
Kauai is the ideal place for those who want to get away from the crowds and experience nature at its finest and the island's activities offer exciting tours and adventures for every taste. You can start off with an overview of the island in a helicopter, flying over Waimea Canyon, the stunningly beautiful Na Pali Coast, the Hanalei River Valley and so much more. Or perhaps kayaking down the Hule'ia Stream through a wildlife refuge and around the base of a mountain range, then hiking to swimming holes and waterfalls seems more adventuresome.
If you don't mind bumping along in a 4x4, you can enjoy seeing sights rarely seen by most visitors, the area around Mt. Waialeale. Cross over mountain streams and travel through dense forest to arrive to the spot where you then hike to just 2 miles downstream from the mountain. Or you could sail along the Na Pali coast, exploring sea caves, going under waterfalls and enjoying some fantastic snorkeling.
If you'd rather not spend as much energy hiking, kayaking or snorkeling, you can always ride in air conditioned comfort and learn some of the history of Kauai while enjoying places throughout the island of incredible beauty. Or travel deep into the interior following the Wailua River with a visit to Opaeka'a Falls and the sacred Hikina Heiau (Temple of Refuge). Then there is Waimea Canyon, with wonderful views of the Na Pali cliffs, Hanapepe Valley, Waimea Town and so much more.
Great adventures, great activities for the entire family. Bring your camera and take home memories to last forever.
